Philippines Relief

As many of you might have seen in the days before and about a week now, Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan hit right smack in the middle of the Philippines that blanketed the whole country. The hardest hit was the Bisayas region and Yolanda left a trail of chaos and hell. I have seen many footage and images of the devastation and the lack of basic and urgent necessities. It breaks my heart to see our fellow mankind suffer in such a way that I would never ever imagined. I take this disaster to heart being that its my motherland but most importantly it is our fellow mankind. To add insult to injury, this same region suffered from a high magnitude earthquake weeks before.  As you can see Philippines really need help right now.

I decided that I would try my very best to help out with what I can and in a way that I best know how.  Prior to this decision I decided that I would take a back seat because I know for sure that T-shirt industry would come up with many fundraising shirts. To my surprise I haven't noticed any a few days ago. It made me a bit angry that so many efforts was done by so many on the Japan relief effort and when it came to Philippines I didn't see anything. So I thought that I would step up and try to do my best to come up with one. So I did and what you see here is what I came up with.

First I came up with the idea of doing a t-shirt design and I came up with a very meaningful one above. Aloha Philippines with the Pilipino flag colors and the sun shining on the Philippines symbolizing hope and aid from Hawaii. As you may have noticed the text runs across central Philippines representing a typhoon of aloha. The message "One Love and Stand Strong" is basically self explanatory. Bellow the text you see the 3 stars and if you noticed, the middle star is dripping. The dripping represents tears from the Bisayas region. In case you didn't know the stars represents the 3 major regions of the Philippines, Luzon-Bisayas-Mindanao.

This shirt will only come in white but custom color ways will be available upon request and charged at a higher rate. The Aloha Philippines - One Love and Stand Strong full color print will be on the front. On the top back will a small blue Aloha with the sun print. It will be in blue to symbolize exactly what the blue represents on the flag which is "peace". Red means war and with that Philippines is in red because it is in war-like situations and absolute chaos. This shirt is currently in pre-order and in process.

Cost of the shirt is $12 plus shipping.

Custom color ways are $25 plus shipping.

I've also came up with the idea of doing decals to generate more donations for the cause and a great way to spread the word without actually doing a lot of talks. The decal itself will do all the talking when placed on vehicles and other surfaces. Nothing really much to go into detail with this design as it is self explanatory. The only thing is that this design will come in 2 sizes for now; a 3"x3", and a 5"x5". Full color printing on white vinyl decal.

Cost of the 3"x3" decal is $2.00 ea.

Cost of the 5"x5" decal is $3.00 ea.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Oahu Filipino Community Council Foundation of which AARP will match dollar for dollar up to $500.000. OFCC will be directly donating the monies to an NGO contact in the Philippines to make sure that it reaches the right people and the ones in need. A lesson learned from previous relief efforts.
